dear reader,

the year was 2011 . i was living in a squat in new orleans’ lower 9th ward, just a few friends and all of our dogs. spring was coming to an end and louisiana’s summer heat was starting to have her effect. i’m still not sure how it all came to be, but i found myself crammed in a light yellow 1980’s toyota corolla. 4 people and 4 dogs, on our way up to central virginia in hopes of starting a land project on our friend’s fallow family land (which we did and it’s still functioning, just at a much higher level). just under 1,000 miles of southern summer driving in a rust bucket car with 2 of the 4 dogs being as large as an adult human and very slobbery. what should have been a 13 hour drive took us about a week. there were many layover’s in autozone parking lots and at one point a near catastrophic control arm malfunction. by the time we ended up in virginia the sedan was in better shape than when it left louisiana, i’m not sure about us though.
